Have you noticed that when you bounce a basketball off the floor, it bounces back up at an opposite angle then you threw it? This is an example of Newton's third law. Every action that you do has an equal (the same) and opposite reaction.
When the cannon shoots the cannon ball it moves backward because of the force that it took to shoot it.
